Well-known religious affairs commentator, Michael Kelly, recently gave a talk about Pope Leo XIV at a lunchtime event of The Iona Institute in a packed Central Catholic Library. He discussed the new pontiff’s life, his ministry and how he will respond to the challenges and opportunities currently facing the Catholic Church. He talked about the Conclave that elected Pope Leo, and what may have prompted his election. Michael also explains why the new pontiff picked the name ‘Leo XIV’.
Michael is a Vatican expert who appears regularly on TV and radio to discuss religious affairs. He is a former editor of The Irish Catholic and is currently Public Affairs Director for Aid to the Church in Need Ireland.
Michael’s book about the new pope is called ‘In Christ We Are One: Pope Leo XIV at the Service of Humanity’ [1].
