Minister wants same-sex marriage taught in primary schools

Education Minister Jan O’Sullivan says she envisages ‘marriage equality’ being taught to primary school children as part of a new course dealing with ethics and world religions.
In an interview with The Sunday Business Post, she said: “I haven’t seen the curriculum yet but I would imagine that it will look at the factual situations of for example, of marriage but also of other religions.”
During the marriage referendum, “No” campaigners warned that schools, including Church-run ones, would have to teach the new definition of marriage. Enda Kenny said he believed schools should have to teach about same-sex marriage in a matter-of-fact way.
The attitude of the various Churches and faiths to this remains to be seen. They have a responsibility to ensure that anything taught in their schools is compatible with the ethos of those schools.
