What do people when say they are ‘spiritual but not religious’?

A new poll from the Pew Forum shows that many people who say they are ‘spiritual but not religious’ are actually happy to identity with a given religion and many are regular church-goers. So what do they mean when they say they are ‘spiritual but not religious’?
