Archbishop Chaput on the Manhattan Declaration

Archbishop Charles Chaput is one of America’s leading defenders of the traditional family. In an interview [1] with Catholic News Agency, he explains, amongst other things why he signed the Manhattan Declaration.

He described it as a “straightforward” statement defending the sanctity of life, religious liberty and the definition of marriage as a union of husband and wife.”

He added: “In a sensible world, none of these things would be in question. But we no longer live in a sensible world.”

Responding to the criticism that the Declaration ‘violated’ the principle of separation of Church and State because Christians were telling the Government what to do, Archbishop Chaput stated: “In the United States, citizens ‘tell government what to do’ all the time. It’s called democracy.”

We should keep that answer in mind next time the same bogus charge is fired at Christians in this country.
