New figures [1] quietly released by the Government show that last year almost 11,000 abortions took place in Ireland, a new record high. The actual figure might be higher than this, because hospitals have not reported their full data yet, according to the Pro-Life Campaign.
In her column [2] last Saturday in The Irish Times, Iona Institute patron, Breda O’Brien, wrote about the new figure. She pointed out how ‘reluctant repealers (of the 8th amendment) promised our abortion figures would not rise, but that they were “wrong, wrong, wrong. The Eighth was saving lives in the thousands.”
She then appeared on Newstalk Breakfast [3] on Tuesday to discuss the column where she was interviewed by Ciara Kelly. You can listen to the interview here [4].
