Civil Partnership Bill to be debated next week: Green Party

The Civil Partnership Bill is set to be debated in the Dail next week, according to a statement from the Green Party.

In a press release, the Party welcomed the news that the Civil Partnership Bill is to be introduced to the Dáil next Thursday.

Green Party Justice spokesperson Ciarán Cuffe TD said the Bill would be introduced by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform.

Deputy Cuffe claimed that the Bill was “a key legislative priority for the Greens in Government and I look forward to its speedy passage and cross party support”.

Deputy Cuffe also poured cold water on the need for a conscience opt-out for people who object to same-sex civil unions, suggesting that such a move was “not the way to go” because it would have “unintended consequences.”
