David Quinn discusses the autonomy of religious hospitals

A new report [1] commissioned by the Government has raised the possibility of changing the way publicly-funded Catholic hospitals are run. One possibility that garnered lots of attention is that religious symbols be removed from public display if a patient wishes it.

David Quinn discussed this issue on Newstalk’s The Pat Kenny Show and on RTE’s Drivetime. He said that religious hospitals should retain the right to be run according to their ethos, otherwise all publicly-funded hospitals would become uniform in nature and would not reflect the true diversity of society.

The respective items can be heard here [2] (starting at minute 54) and here [3].

David also appeared on KFM to debate the matter with Michael Nugent of Atheist Ireland. It can be found here [4] (it begins at 34 minutes).
