Speaker: Olwyn Mark

We are pleased to invite you to our next meeting which will be addressed by Dr Olwyn Mark of Love for Life, Northern Ireland and author of ‘Educating for Sexual Virtue: A Moral Vision for Relationships and Sex Education‘.

Dr Mark’s topic will be ‘What a good Relationships and Sexuality course looks like’.

A review of the way RSE is taught in schools is currently underway and it promises to be very far-reaching and radical with profound implications for faith-based schools. A Christian view of RSE seeks to put sex in a proper relational setting that goes beyond consent only, whereas the view increasingly favoured by the State is far more utilitarian and relativistic. The Christian approach to sex and relationships is often condemned as ‘moralistic’, ‘judgemental’ and ‘unrealistic’.

How do we answer these charges and show our vision is more positive and more realistic, especially in the age of the MeToo movement, which highlights some of the problems of the sex revolution?

Olwyn E. Mark is Head of Research and Strategic Partnerships at Love for Life, a Christian charity specialising in the development and delivery of Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) programmes. She is also a Research Fellow and Visiting Lecturer at the London School of Theology, where she completed her PhD. She has an MA in Bioethics from St Mary’s University, Twickenham and an MA in European Politics from Brunel University. She has been involved in the development of numerous faith-based RSE projects, both nationally and internationally.
