Recently in Ireland Catholic healthcare has been attacked as ‘dangerous’. The accusation arose in the context of a row over the relocation of the National Maternity Hospital. In this video, David Quinn of The Iona Institute interviews Dr Christopher Kazcor, a professor of philosophy at Loyola Marymount University in California, about Catholic healthcare. They discuss its history (at 2:50), what distinguishes it from secular healthcare (at 10:50), its similarities with Hippocratic medicine (at minute 16), the enormous contribution the Catholic Church still makes to healthcare worldwide and why it has some bad reputation (at minute 23), why it is pro-life, as well as growing pressure on the conscience rights of pro-life doctors and healthcare institutions (at minute 31).
