Is it is boy, is it a girl? We’re not going to tell you.

As you may have read, a Canadian couple is not telling the world the sex of their  baby. To do so, they believe, would impose all kinds of stereotypes about boys and girls on the child.

Therefore they won’t tell anyone if he/she is a boy or a girl so he/she can be free to decide the kind of person he/she wants to be, that is ‘stereotypically’ male or female or something in between.

This kind of insane thinking comes straight out of the ‘gender is a social construct’ school of thought, meaning we might be biologically male or female but after that ‘male’ and ‘female’ behaviour is inculcated by society, that is, male and female behaviour is not innate.

Neurobiologists would take issue with that because it is becoming ever clearer that a lot of male and female behaviour is innate even if there are big variations between individuals.

Given that there are innate differences between males and females what this couple is doing to their child with their experiment, is….inadvisable, to put it as mildly as possible. The poor kid.

Basically, they believe that parents have been getting it wrong ever since the first humans and the first babies. All along we should have been keeping the sex of our babies a secret from the child and from the world in the name of ‘choice’ and ‘liberation’.

On this score the father said that parents make too many choices for their children. He described this as “obnoxious”.

But the dad hasn’t spotted a small little irony, namely that he and his partner have made a huge choice for their child by not announcing his or her sex to the world.

The fact is, there is no way parents can’t make choices for their children. It comes with being a parent because small children are incapable of making decisions for themselves by definition.

In making this extraordinary decision for their baby, the couple has proven the point.
