March 31 2010 Documentary highlights UK persecution of Christians

A combination of ideologically-driven local councils and ‘human rights’ laws is resulting in the persecution of Christians in Britain a new BBC document to be Christian persecutionaired on Sunday night will claim.

The programme will be presented by Nicky Campbell of Radio 5 Live. He will argue that Labour’s anti-discrimination laws have led to clashes between religious conscience and gay rights.

In Ireland, the Government and opposition parties have refused point-blank to countenance including a conscience clause in the upcoming Civil Partnership Bill. One effect of this will be to allow gay couples to sue church halls if they cannot rent them for their civil partnership receptions.

Campbell also attacks local councils for doing away with Christmas celebrations in favour of ‘winter festivals’.

He cites the French and Russian revolutions as examples of what can happen to religious believers when religion is forced out of public life. In those countries believers were violently persecuted.

Campbell says this won’t happen in Britain. However, he argues that “a minority believes they are being sidelined and victimised. By the standards of liberal society, that can feel like persecution.”

In Britain, Catholic adoptions agencies have been forced to close because they won’t place children with homosexual couples.

A nurse was suspended because she offered to pray for a patient.

This week a street preacher was fined in Scotland for saying homosexuals will go to Hell.

Meanwhile, a Christian nurse is fighting the NHS in front of an employment tribunal because it prevented her wearing a cross around her neck while at work.

The documentary, ‘Are Christians being persecuted?’ airs on BBC One on Sunday at 10.50pm.
