FF’s Martin Daly slammed for ‘attacks’ during abortion hearing

Roscommon TD, Dr Martin Daly of Fianna Fail, has been accussed of “appalling” attacks on two fellow doctors who were giving evidence at a recent Oireachtas Committee in favour of keeping the 3-day abortion wait. Eithne Deane, a former member of Fianna Fáil inRoscommon, said “the lack of professional courtesy Dr Daly displayed towards his medical colleagues before they even had an opportunity to present their case, was appalling to watch.”

In questioning Dr Andrew O’Regan and Dr Kirsten Fuller, the Fianna Fail TD, who would remove the 3-day wait, told them the committee had not asked for their general reflections on abortion, but later in the hearing asked them for a yes or no answer on whether they opposed abortion “in all its forms”. He also asked if they “prescribe the contraceptive pill” in their practice. Bizarrely, he also brought up an interview Dr O’Regan did on Spirit Radio and asked “What is Spirit Radio?” Before Dr O’Regan finished his sentence, the TD cut him off and told him “It’s a radio, a Christian radio”, before adding, “which is fine, that’s fine”.

After the hearing, Dr Daly who is a Fianna Fáil TD for Roscommon was also criticised by Aontú for “berating doctors” simply for disagreeing with him over the removal of the 3 day wait.
