Planned Parenthood investigated for failing to reported suspected abuse

American abortion provider Planned Parenthood has been investigated by officials in the state of Alabama after an inspection uncovered a suspected case of sexual abuse which the group failed to report to authorities.

According to Lifesite News, amid ongoing exposés of Planned Parenthood’s trading in human foetal body parts, an online news outlet, Yellow Hammer News, gained access to records of a 2014 inspection of a Planned Parenthood facility by Alabama’s Department of Public Health, and found that the clinic failed to bring to the attention of the authorities – as required by state law – the case of a 14-year-old girl who made a number of visits for terminations.

The documents report that the unnamed girl sought a termination in April of 2014 and again in August of that year. The same girl had also previously given birth twice. Yet Planned Parenthood made no move to undertake mandatory reporting.

According to the Department’s own report, the clinic “failed to report reasonable suspected abuse or neglect for a minor. This affected [the girl] and had the potential to affect all patients served by this facility.”

Responding to queries from Yellow Hammer, a Department of Public health spokesperson said Planned Parenthood subsequently reported the matter, but only after the inspection had uncovered the failure to act in the first instance.

Yellow Hammer News further reported that the 2014 inspection looked at a sample seven women who attended the Alabama facility and found violations in each case.
