Prominent academic: “Pope is right on AIDS and condoms”

You may remember that, some months ago, the Pope was embroiled in a controversy after he pointed out that condom distribution wasn’t the solution to the AIDS epidemic.

In an interview prior to his visit to Africa, Pope Benedict went as far as to suggest that policies which emphasise only condom promotion may actually make the problem worse. At the time, the great and the good, including a variety of European politicians, excoriated the Pope, saying he was signing the death warrant for millions of Africans by attacking condoms.

Here’s a report pointing out that the Pope’s statements have quite a bit of scientific evidence behind them.
