Same-sex marriage and religious opt outs: what’s happening in the US

An article in Sunday’s Washington Post provides a useful overview of the issues surrounding same-sex civil unions and religious freedom.

The piece, written by Professor Robin Wilson, specifically concerns a proposal to legalise same-sex marriage in Washington D.C., but it is very lucid in pointing out how such laws can damage religious freedom.

The article also points out that legislators in the US states of New Hampshire, Connecticut and Vermont have crafted same-sex marriage bills which protect religious freedom, to some extent at least. It is very much worth your time.
